About Aqualogic
Aqualogic is a science-minded company focused on integrated management techniques for invasive aquatic plant control, watershed approach design and wetland restoration. Our core value is adaptability. We understand that each aquatic system is a unique entity, and must be evaluated and treated on an individual basis. Thus, we are continually focused on developing new strategies. In addition, we understand the value of collaborating with consultants and government agencies to find the best solution for the challenge at hand.

Aqualogic Methodology
It is widely known and understood that Eurasian Watermilfoil spreads most aggressively by rooted fragments. We have designed our system to reduce the spread of fragments using three stage filtration. At the lake bottom our divers hand select each plant by the root which is then delivered to the surface through a four inch vacuum line. Once topside, the material is deposited onto a screen for drying and wildlife removal (Snails, Crayfish, Mussels..). As the material is drying the runoff produced flows down to a second screen with reduced porosity. It is then filtered a third time upon re-entry to the lake. This year (2010) we will be implementing a newly developed technology that effectively corrals floating material within the vicinity of the divers and delivers the fragments topside through an additional unmanned vacuun line.
One of the challenges that we typically face is that of high algal biomass. Due to its thread like composition, the algae would "flash" over the screens and require frequent maintenance stops. As a result we developed a bagging system that is quickly interchangeable allowing the system to operate continuously with the same level of filtration.
Adapting our Logic With Monitoring
Aqualogic is currently engaged in a four year monitoring program, managed by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station and funded by The Taunton Lake Homeowners Association, to study the effects of vacuum harvesting of Eurasian Watermilfoil. This innovative program is located on Taunton Lake in Newtown, CT. Taunton Lake is a 124 acre lake located in Fairfield County, CT that has a diverse 10.2 acre Eurasian Watermilfoil population. As part of our "whole lake" approach we have been contracted to remove all the milfoil, both surveyed and emerging, over the next four years. One of the greatest challenges faced when confronting a diverse population is the sediment type and bottom structure unique to each lake. Our staff has been trained to adapt and strives to continually improve our methodology while maintaining an efficient pace.

A message from the Owner & Developer
Over the years we have learned that the process of aquatic plant harvesting requires a great deal of dedication and perserverance. We are consistently being tested by forces of nature, invasive plant adaptability, competing interests and tough working conditions. Through all of this we have developed a company philosophy grounded in the idea of collaboration. We all have to work together to preserve, protect and restore our aquatic ecosystems while continually building the foundation of sound integrated management techniques. - Robert P. Nute
